Project History: Airport Drivey Cycleway was built as a condition of consent for the M5East motorway project and was constructed in 2001-2003. It runs from the Giovanni Brunetti (Marsh Street) bridge over the Cooks River to Coward Street.

Challenges:
- Route alignment changed from running alongside the freight rail line to along the canal due space restrictions sufficient where the billboards are
- Some sections were too narrow and required piles with a bridge structure to provide enough width without impacting the heritage listed canal wall
- Head clearance and path width underneath the freight rail bridge which meant the path surface was below high tide and so needed a specialised drainage solution
- Further connections north along the Alexandra Canal as a condition of redevelopment of land
